June 4 - “I love to be on stage”

We got in a two-miler on the road, so to speak. We are on the road, being away from home, and we did the walk on the Waco roads. Our time wasn’t up to our current standards, but then, Waco has actual hills. Not fair for a couple of sandbar Islanders.

In preparation for her big dress rehearsal, AnnaGrace practiced through all of her dances for us. Lyrical (my favorite), tap (very cute), jazz (who doesn’t like jazz?), and ballet (looked like she was floating). I couldn’t wait for the full-on dress rehearsal.

After she finished AnnaGrace said, “A lot of people have stage fright, but I love to be on stage.”

That’s my girl. Her name is Vaughan.

We arrived at the rehearsal about 30 minutes early. The main doors were locked, so we were led through the bowels of the venue to a back door entry to the main auditorium. And for the next 20 minutes or so we had the entire space virtually to ourselves. I may or may not have snuck up on stage and practiced the dance moves I learned from Arya (No, I didn’t really do that. I was with Chris, remember? No way she would allow that infraction to happen. But I DID think about it).

AnnaGrace performed all four of her dances with grace and elan (Like that word? I learned it from a crossword puzzle). She was nothing less than fabulous. Of course. One proud granddad here.

From there we headed straight to the church for another night of Family Vacation Bible School. We were too late to get supper, and the pre-worship dancing had just come to a close, so I didn’t get to dance with Arya again. I did catch up with her after the worship service, though. A big grin lit up her face when she saw me. Here’s the transcript of our brief conversation.

Arya: “I missed you dancing with me.”

Me: I missed you too.

Arya: “You will be here tomorrow, though, won’t you?”

Me: No. I have to go to Galveston tomorrow.

Arya: “Oh. Galveston (like she knew it was a very long way. I might as well have said Mars). But now I’ll have to miss you again.”

Me: (heart strings sufficiently tugged) Well, I’ll miss you again, too.

We high-fived and departed. That’s one youngster I won’t soon forget.

‭‭1 Peter‬ ‭5‬:‭6‬-‭7‬ ‭says, Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God, so that He may exalt you at the proper time, casting all your care on Him, because He cares about you.

Father, thanks for you for making little girls so … sweet. You gotta love ‘em. Amen.
