It’s
kind of sad when the most exciting, exhilarating point of the day comes by
completing a jigsaw puzzle. But, hey … this one had a thousand pieces. And two pictures of quilts with patters of flowers
and plaids that all looked alike. But we
powered our way through and got it done.
And we did it working together.
Best part, you know.
Back
in the day when we were first married … long time ago … hmm … if my
calculations are correct – and they’d better
be correct - it will be 45 years on June 6th … wow, were we ever
poor back then … I made $35 a week after I got a raise when we got married … we
used to do things like make Christmas ornaments and dye Easter eggs. Some of that tradition carried over when we had
kids, but as happens, life became centered around the parenting
experience. We still did things together
… all together … things that toddlers could do … or that teenagers would do. It was a fun era of life, to be sure.
And
now that we have been thrust back into spending time alone with just the two of
us, we are rediscovering the joy of the simple things … hence a jigsaw
puzzle. Oh, Chris still does her
quilting. And I’m still working remotely
from home, preparing a Facebook Live broadcast for every Sunday and trying to
keep up with Seaside and fire department families. But every so often we gravitate to that
puzzle table. Or nestle down onto the
couch next to each other to watch and episode of NCIS or Spring Baking
Championship or something else we have on the DVR. With all the weirdness that is Coronavirus living
… there is this. And I kinda like it.
Proverbs
31:30 says, “Charm is deceptive, and beauty
is fleeting; but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised.”
Father,
thank you for the special quiet moments of shoulder to shoulder final discovery
of that one elusive piece to the puzzle.
Amen.
