For
a day that only comes around every four years, yesterday was a relatively
uneventful one. I thought February 29
was supposed to be this earth-shattering, apocalypse-beginning,
much-to-be-remembered moment in time. Eh
… Not so much over here.
Chris
and I went on another date. Sort
of. Two in a row, you know. This time we went all the way to Pasadena
just to watch a baseball game. No, not
the one in California. That would just
be silly. We went to Pasadena, Texas, to
watch oldest grandson Jachin play a baseball game. Always a treat, and especially when the
weather is as nice as it turned out.
Chris did have a blanket to wrap up in, and I did wear a hoodie with the
team logo on it, but the sun was shining and it was just cool enough.
The
good guys lost by one run, but it was definitely a nail biter. Jachin made several really good plays –
stretches – at first base. He also
walked twice. And the best part of the
event? Someone from Jachin’s team was
providing free hot dogs and hamburgers to all family and friends. Oh, and among the side dishes was a really
good cherry cobbler. Nice day …
We
took Kel and Jachin home after the game.
Christina had to pick up three of their kids at the karate studio where
they were experiencing a class on proper techniques for stretching. Micah and Josiah had to go to one of those
demonstrations and write a paper on it as one of the requirements for their
next belt attainment. Don’t ask me what
colors are involved on the belt. No way
I can keep up with that. They all got
home shortly after we did, and the chaotic hum that is the norm around their
house settled in place once again.
Proverbs
16:9 says, “In their hearts humans plan
their course, but the Lord establishes their steps.”
Father,
please help Jachin and the young men on his team stay focused on learning and
improving from one game to the next, in spite of the score. Toughest lesson ever. Amen.
