June 3 – “Did I miss something?”

After a rousing morning at church (I even heard a few mumbled “Amen’s” and “That’s right’s” during the teaching), we went out to lunch with some Seasider friends.  They treated Chris and I to a Shrimp and Stuff fine dining experience (Well, as “fine” as Shrimp and Stuff gets.  They are more focused on good seafood than ambiance) for our anniversary.  Wait.  Anniversary?  Did I miss something?  Oh, no.  Let me check … Phew.  I’m still good.  That’s not until Thursday of this week.

On the way home we stopped by to check in on Mrs. Betty.  She’s the 90-year-old best friend of my Mom who generally attends our home group.  She told us she was coming last week, but never arrived.  She’s OK.  Currently she is visiting her brother out somewhere between here and San Antonio.  Sure miss having her around.

Back home we settled in to watch the Astros game, which, with all the injuries to their starting lineup, is having more and more the feel of watching their AAA affiliate in Round Rock.  We never anticipated the game lasting four hours and 24 minutes, though.  They went twelve innings.  The Astros pulled out the win, too.  It was an incredibly fun game to watch, especially with the exploits of the young speedster, Myles Straw.  He had three stolen bases.  It would seem that the Round Rock Astros are plenty good enough to beat a lot of Major League teams (especially the ones in their division).  And the scary thing (for the other teams) is that the arguably best minor league Astros players haven’t even been brought up to the Majors yet.  I like it.

Romans 8:18 says, “I consider that our present sufferings are not worth comparing with the glory that will be revealed in us.”

Father, Please be with Mrs. Betty in her travels and as she faces decisions about her future.  Amen.
