August 11 – “Hospital call”

The post today will be a short one, but it looks like the day will be a long one.  We got a call at around 4:30 this morning.  That is always cause for butterflies in the pastor's stomach.  I recognized the name that came up on caller ID, but the voice that answered me did not match up.  It was a friend of the phone owner calling to let someone know about what he referred to as "a family emergency."  Again, the pastor's instinct did a double-take.  It's never easy to be "on" at that hour, but especially not when it involves someone you know and love.

Sure enough, the news was that one of our long time friends had been in an accident and was headed to the emergency room.  We got there soon after the ambulance and spent some time waiting, as we expected.  But the staff did a great job of connecting with us and keeping us informed until we could get back to see the patient.  She was banged up pretty bad, but she was able to talk to us and to the doctors.  Pretty nasty cut on her head and some kind of neck injury.  They will be doing a myriad of tests today, and she'll be under observation in the ICU probably all night.  A surgery is scheduled for tomorrow morning.  Please pray for this one.

Isaiah 58:8 says, "Then your light will break forth like the dawn, and your healing will quickly appear; then your righteousness will go before you, and the glory of the Lord will be your rear guard."

Father, please do a work of healing in Anna, physically and spiritually.  Amen.
