The heavy trash pick-up has been accomplished. That means all the branches and old palm tree portions that our grandkids so graciously hauled to the street were safely tucked away into the back of a huge truck - the kind of truck with the monster claw that grabs the debris and drops it away. Oh, there was also a guy with boots on the ground. His job was to sweep things all together into one pile for the claw. He did … an okay job. I would have given him a hard pass, but he didn’t quite meet Chris’ rigid Thanksgiving specifications. That led to her exercise of the day. She picked up the branch or two that was left in the yard. It really wasn’t much, so be assured, oh thou ever-watchful guardian eyes that belong to our children, she didn’t over-exert. She did spend a good deal of time leaning against the truck. No, she wasn’t recovering her strength from doing too much. She was comparing stent notes with our neighbor who we haven’t seen in a while. I guess it’s nice to have something in common. Give you plenty to talk about. So … does anybody want to see my back surgery scar?
On
an inside note … all the floor sweeping is done. Clean sheets are on the beds. Bathrooms are spotless. Vacuuming is done (I did that one. No, I didn’t pick anything up. Just shoved stuff out of the way). We are ready for the onslaught of cuteness due
in today for … Pie Day. It’s that annual
event where the kitchen become the scene of flour and sugar and cinnamon and
apples and pumpkin and spices and pecans and little hands all covered in the same.
The smell is wonderful. Cailyn is coming over this morning to spend
the day. Kel is bringing his family to
join in the fun as well. I guess they’ll
be here sometime this morning as well.
Actually, I predict the girls and probably Ezra will end up in the
kitchen. Kel wants to try out his new
air turkey fryer on a turkey they have, so he’s bringing that along. We need some help cleaning the big pots from
when we fried turkeys the other day, so the guys will be put to work on that
end. Pie Day. Can we add that to the week and make it
happen 52 times a year?
Psalms
9:1-2 says, “I give thanks to you, Lord, with all my heart; I will tell of all
your wonderful deeds. I will be glad and
rejoice in you; I will sing the praises of your name, O Most High.”
Father,
thank you for Pie Days. It is amazing
how combining a few ingredients can create such an amazing aroma and even
better taste. Amen.
