We spent our first night on the road in Port Allen, Louisiana. It’s actually a suburb of Baton Rouge. We had enough points on our Choice Hotels tally sheet that we got a free stay. Hard to beat free.
We pulled out of Port Allen and crossed the Mighty Mississip around 8:30 or so. Enjoyed texting with Seasider Brent who has moved to Ponchatoula, Louisiana. Great name.
We tried to make a stop for gas in Mississippi. Problems arose. Number one, it was a Buc-ees. And Buc-ees shouldn’t be in Mississippi. Number two, it wasn’t open yet. Brand new building. Oh well. Enjoy Buc-ees, Mississippi.
But wait. All was not lost. We decided to give the Buc-ees in Alabama another chance. Last time we went there, the traffic was horrendous. This time it was still not perfect, but it was better. So … Buc-ees fix accomplished. Check.
We made it all the way to Tallahassee before stopping for the night. Supper was leftovers (not as good as the fresh meal, but the ketchup we bought at Buc-ees did its job admirably).
After eating, we drove over to the local … OK. I’ll just come out and say it … Walmart. Now, you have to understand, we had a good reason. Well, I had a good reason. See … I forgot to pack my shorts. I had underwear. And shirts. And blue jeans. And socks. And the one pair of shorts I was wearing. One pair of shorts. For a three week trip. So … Walmart to the rescue. Now I’m all set.
John 1:1 says, In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
Father, thanks for you for Chris’ incredible driving endurance. She is truly amazing. Amen.
