August 5 – “FaceTime”

We received a Facetime request from none other than Luke.  That’s our newest grandson – the one born last October.  OK, I guess he might have had a little bit of help initiating the call, but his was the face we saw, nonetheless.  He didn’t really say much.  But he did try to grab my nose.  When that didn’t work he tried to connect with us using his feet.  I guess that’s something, right?  Josh said he has been eating pretty much the same thing the rest of the family does.  I know he meant that as a good thing, but the rest of the family are pretty picky eaters.  I told him I hope Luke is at least eating more of a variety than the rest of them.

Now his brothers were a bit of a different story.  They were incredibly … active.  They did slow down for a few brief moments, though.  They wanted to insure that a cousins’ sleepover was still on the docket for when they came to Galveston to visit.  That being settled, they shared a bit about what they had been doing.  Caleb crawled onto the table to tell us that he has been doing nothing but eating for the last two days.  Seems he was sick for a while last week, and he’s making up for lost time.  I may be mistaken, but I think he might have been trying to take a bite out of his Dad’s iPad as well.  Christi, you need to feed that boy.  He seemed to be undecided when it comes to his next birthday party.  He attended the party of a friend at a karate center of some kind, so that is now on his list.  But he also wants to host a rousing game of laser tag at another place he has been to … in Arlington.  Just a bit of a drive from Waco.  Undeterred, he has that scenario covered.  In his words, “I just want to invite my two best friends.  That’s all.  I don’t like it when it’s too crowded at birthdays.”

Zakary is the consummate older brother.  Very much in control when he talks to us, since he completely understands the operation of the iPad.  Well, except for when he did some strange facial contortions.  But then maybe he was just straining under the pressure of the first-born.  I certainly wouldn’t know about that.  I’m just a forgotten middle child, after all.  Zak did show us his latest Legos creation.  He had been working on it all day, and it showed.  He had designed an alligator boat.  Not a boat for seeking out alligators, mind you.  This boat was an alligator, with chomping jaws on the front and everything.  And it was driven by a little Lego man with a gigantic alligator head.  And landed on the boat was an aircraft piloted by yet another strange creature.  I thought it might be a pig man, but Caleb told me it was a wolf.  Frightening.  But the creativity was truly amazing.  That’s some grandsons I have up there in Waco.  Can’t wait so see them in person next week.

3 John 4 says, “I have no greater joy than to hear that my children are walking in the truth.”

Father, guide my grandchildren (and their parents) to walk in your truth always.  Amen.
