May 8 – “Corona Scale, Home Edition”

We had three big events occur yesterday.   Well, I guess they would be considered “big” on the Corona Scale, Home Edition of looking at things.  They certainly pale before news like finding a cure or a vaccine.  And maybe it’s even not as big as the announcement of the start of professional football schedules to start in September.  Or the closing off of eight West End beach access points to vehicular traffic for the next three weeks (which could again affect parking at Seaside’s lots).  Or the possible sanctions against the University of Kansas men’s basketball program.

But to us, they were notable.  First off, the hummingbirds came back.  I think they got mad at Chris the last time she took down the feeder to refill it.  As territorial as they have been around here, that was the ultimate slap in the face, so they just left.  But yesterday they made a return appearance.  Fortunately Chris had the feeder full and ready to go.  The birds were happy to have a full belly.  And we were happy to have another source of Corona Entertainment.

Secondly, we had a visit from the LaMarque Vaughan cousins.  They had been by the library to pick up their virtual order of books, so they had to stop by and check on Nana and DadDad.  We hung out in the back yard.  Ezra and Noa and Josiah took turns on the swings.  Jachin and Micah chatted about baseball.  Oh, and they were especially excited about the new Corona Game they made up.  It’s a variation of hide and seek.  The unique new rule?  The person who is “It” has to be blindfolded.  I guess it would be more like a game of Marco Polo in the swimming pool, but here’s the thing.  They are in a two story house.  If I understood them correctly, Josiah took a tumble down the stairs.  And Jachin somehow broke the toilet seat.  Don’t ask me how that happened.  The game does sound like fun, though.  Maybe I can get Chris to play it with me.

The third incident was truly an exciting one.  I got a text from a lady who had been coming to Seaside back before Corona struck.  She and her daughter were among those scheduled to be baptized at the Easter sunrise service.  They are ready to be baptized.  This Sunday, in fact.  I’ll be sending her some info on baptism and we’ll get together before the service.  But that means our Seaside Outside service will be punctuated by a trip to the beach.  Gotta love it.

Ezekiel 36:26 says, “I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you; I will remove from you your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh.”

Father, be with us Sunday morning.  Please add an extra special dash of your Spirit to our celebration time together.  Amen.
