So yesterday was the celebration for Zak’s
birthday. Actually his birthday is
tomorrow, but they will be back home in Waco by then, so we jumped right in
while the iron was hot, so to speak. Thirteen
years old. A teenager. Have fun, Mom and Dad.
The festivities started out with a lunch in
LaMarque. Kel grilled some burgers and
dogs and chickens. Good stuff.
Next we went to a movie. Zak chose “Godzilla, King of the Monsters.” Can’t beat monsters and explosions. The younger ones went to see “Life of Pets”
and the ones in the middle saw “Picachu Conquers the World,” or something like
that. We went with the monsters. The movies itself was a bit of a slow
starter. I confess – Chris and Cailyn
caught me napping. But Chris took my
hand and that kept me awake until the fighting and blowing up stuff
started. I understand I wasn’t alone in
my blissful slumber. Josh said he had to
get filled in on what he missed by Caleb. And apparently Christi and AnnaGrace had a
nice little nap in their theater.
After the movie we came back to our house
for some pizza. Well, it took us a while
to actually get the pizza. The person in
front of us ordered twenty. Quite the
wait time.
Back at the house the kids organized a
badminton tournament. Sadly, there is no
more volleyball. Scooter ate the
ball. But badminton. Not net.
I didn’t even know badminton was a thing in their vocabulary. Micah did mention that they would have to go
to England to play in the finals. Not
sure who won. Not sure they are sure,
either.
Brian and Jennifer stopped by to give us
some peaches. Corey and Janell and
Brennan saw all the action, so they came over as well. Lots of noisy around here.
Zak’s evening choice was to watch the NBA
finals game. However, at halftime he
switched it over to Netflix and put on “Indian in the Cupboard” for the little
guys. Classy move, Zak. He later disappeared into the office and
watched the rest of the game on the computer.
Meanwhile I Watched the Astros on my iPad. The good guys won on a walk-off double in the
11th inning. The movie ended
not long after the two games. And surprise
of all surprises, it didn’t take long for the kids to give up and fall
asleep. Didn’t take for the adults to
join them, either. Long day. Good day.
Happy birthday, Zak.
2 Timothy 1:9 says, “He has saved us and called us to a holy life – not because of anything
we have done but because of his own purpose and grace. This grace was given us in Christ Jesus
before the beginning of time”
Father, thank you for Zak and the thirteen
years you have blessed us with him.
Amen.
