May 18 - “Graduation number two”

Yesterday was sort of a repeat. Graduation Number Two, if you will. This time it was Micah’s turn.

We drove up to Alvin to the church where his homeschool co-op had been meeting. About twelve students were graduating from their respective homeschool programs.

The program began with Micah and another guy from his karate school performing a thing called Meegook. It was a martial arts performance set to the Star Spangled Banner. Very impressive. There were the usual speeches and presentations. Then came time for the diploma presentations. Each student’s parents met him on stage. The student gave Mom a bouquet of flowers. Then, arm in arm, they watched a video in which each parent had recorded a personal message over a montage of photos from the student’s life. Then Mom moved the tassel, and Dad presented the diploma.

My favorite comment was one I am still mulling over in my head. Apparently one of the students has a “heart like a truck.” I’m not sure … Is that a good thing?

After the ceremony there was a big reception where each student had decorated a table with personal memorabilia. And most of them included treats like rollo candies or pretzels. A table in back had cupcakes and rolls to turn into tiny turkey sandwiches and water and coffee. And of course there was a Photo Booth setup. A much-used addition to the festivities. I thought the whole thing was put together and executed quite impressively.

Way to go, Micah. We are proud of you.

John‬ ‭16‬:‭13‬ ‭says, When the Spirit of truth comes, He will guide you into all the truth. For He will not speak on His own, but He will speak whatever He hears. He will also declare to you what is to come.

Father, thank you for this milestone Micah has achieved. Continue to bless him. Amen.
