We hit the road around 8:30, heading for Houston. First born grandson Jachin graduated from our Alma mater, Houston Christian University. When we started there, it was Houston Baptist College. In our third or fourth year, it changed to Houston Baptist University. Guess it’s in the Big Time now.
We almost couldn’t go. Each student is only allowed six tickets. That covers Jachin’s siblings and Mom and Dad. But not grandparents. However, the day before the event, students could stand in line for extras. Jachin managed to score three extras. Two for us and one for Christina’s dad. Good job, Jachin. Oh, good job on the whole graduating in three years thing. Took me five. We are really proud of you.
Speaking of proud, I think we got in a hundred or so photos before the ceremony even started. We had some great seats. Lower balcony … front row. And that meant … a hundred more photos. The only snafu I noticed was when they called out his name. He had provided them with a pronunciation guide - “Jay-kin.” Is that how they pronounced it? Nope. How about “Jaa-kin”? Oh well.
Oh, and I got a new cap. Now I’m officially an HCU alum instead of HBU. And speaking of alums, we got to meet Jalyx Hunt. He played football at HCU before getting drafted into the NFL and having an amazing game for the Eagles at the Super Bowl. Jachin knew him from his time as student trainer.
From the college we drove down to Alvin. Ezra, Noa, and Josiah were performing in their end of the year fine arts co-op thing. Ezra sang in a choir. Noa played the violin and her choir sang 2 songs. Josiah played guitar and sang in a choir as well. Of course they all were amazing.
From there we went over to Nathan and April and Cailyn’s. They invited us for supper to celebrate Mother’s Day. Fried shrimp and grilled red snapper. Yum.
It was quite the full day, for sure. Now to see what actual Mother’s Day holds today.
Genesis 2:3 says, God blessed the seventh day and declared it holy, for on it He rested from His work of creation.
Father, thanks for the moms in my life. Of course my mom was awesome. Thanks as well for Chris, Christina, Christi, and April. I love those ladies. Bless them today. Amen.
