We
went to see The Jungle Book movie the other day. Not the cartoon version. The real-life one with real animals and a
real Mowgli. It was pretty good,
especially since I didn’t know the story since I never stayed awake during the
cartoon. Sadly, I have to confess that I
didn’t stay awake during this movie, either.
I didn’t miss too much of it, though.
Just some part about a big snake.
Mowgli obviously came out all right on the other side, with a big bear
as a new friend to boot.
We
were going to hook up with Kel and Christina to let the cousins play together,
but Luke started running a fever. And
when Christi called to let Christina know, we found out that Josiah had just
started running one as well. So much for
a cousins’ night. Instead we left
Christi and Luke at the house and went over to Nathan’s for a cookout. He invited his neighbors and some friends
from the fire department and from April’s work.
I learned how to play pitching washers using the wood boxes with holes
in them. Nathan and I were undefeated
champions.
Another
“excursion of the day” took us out to Jamaica Beach for a little fishing
trip. I managed to land a red fish
keeper. Zak landed a sand trout. Josh reeled in a little flounder we threw
back. Caleb had a red bigger than the
one I caught right up next to the net when the wiggly squirmer (that would be the fish in this case, not
Caleb) broke the line. I think they
all had a good time, though, and we ate the fresh fish yesterday. Can’t beat that kinda life …
Yesterday
the boys were also finally able to get in some playing time with the
cousins. Josh and Christi took them up
to LaMarque for the afternoon. And
before they could make their way back here, Cailyn had arrived. Her Mom and Dad were both working, so she
spent the night with us. It was a tough
wait for her until they got back, and she was forced to endure some Nani and
DadDad time alone, but she finally enjoyed some cousin time of her own.
Romans
8:6 says, “The mind of sinful man is
death, but the mind controlled by the Spirit is life and peace.”
Father,
thank you for fish and family and fun.
Amen.
