December 11 – “Detail Doings”

Ah.  The Saga of the Comcast Cable Installation is finally at an end.  We do have our modem installed at the church.  It does provide a pretty strong wireless signal.  It should work just fine for the Bethlehem Market tomorrow … and beyond.  But the experience was not without its rocky moments.

Without going through the myriad of tumultuous telephone calls that led up to this, the tech was finally supposed to be there at 9 a.m. yesterday.  I was assured time and time again that he would be there.  The guy that does the assigning of techs to their daily responsibilities promised that he would have a tech there even if he had to reassign someone.  Methinks thou dost protest overmuch.

And as of 9 a.m. there was no sign of a tech.  I waited until 9:30 before calling.  Went straight to voice mail.  So I called the fellow from the other day who was so helpful (the only one who was really helpful).  He was quite surprised that I was told someone would be there at 9, since he was in the building with the techs, and they were all at a meeting in the room right in front of him.  He grabbed someone nearby and asked them to check out my situation.  They found the work order right away.  It was scheduled for December 15th, three days after the market.  I explained that that would not work, and my buddy on the inside agreed with me.  He had promised the installation would take place, and he was determined to make it happen.  “Dana will call you in 30 minutes with a time for the tech to arrive.”  Right.

I waited an hour before calling him back.  This time he reacted with a bit more rage than ever before.  “They were supposed to call you, and obviously they did not.  You will get a call in the next few minutes.”  And guess what?  I got a call in the next few minutes.  The tech was just leaving Kemah on his way, at least 30 minutes away.  So the 9 a.m. appointment suddenly became an 11:30 one.  Fortunately Chris and I were working on posters and give-away bags for the market, so we weren’t bored by any means.

The guy finally arrived and once I communicated what we needed, he set to work.  It took him until almost 5:00, but he got us up and running.  We had just enough time to race home, do a cursory cleaning of the house, grab showers and set up for Home Group.  Phew.  And to think today’s docket promises to be just as full and “exciting.” Gotta love those last minute detail doings.

1 Peter 1:18-19 says, “For you know that it was not with perishable things such as silver or gold that you were redeemed from the empty way of life handed down to you from your forefathers, but with the precious blood of Christ, a lamb without blemish or defect.”

Father, thank you for the wonders of technology.  They can really be frustrating at times.  It’s hard to connect with that world, but the results are amazing.  Kind of like connecting with the spiritual world – with you.  Amazing.  Amen.
