February 4 – “And the winner is”

So who won at your Super Bowl party last night?  There were some pretty good ones once again.  The Doritos insatiable goat was good, as was their group of rough and tough football guys playing princess to get at a bag of chips.  The E*Trade baby soaking ion a hot tub with a panda brought some chuckles.  Early on was one about a boy heading to his first prom.  He doesn’t have a date but his Dad let him drive the Audi.  That gave him so much confidence that he strutted into the dance and kissed the prom queen.  Of course her boyfriend punched him, but he drove home with a smile on his face and a black eye.  AXE cologne was interesting.  A girl was saved from a shark attack by a handsome lifeguard.  Just as they are about to kiss, she sees an astronaut walking on the beach in full gear and runs over to him.  Odd, but funny.  Kia did one about a boy asking where babies come from.  Another planet of course.  They are brought over in spaceships with baby animals of all kinds, then parachuted into the appropriate families’ lives.  Cute until the boy starts to tell what he heard from a friend.  Mom and Dad then start singing to distract him.  Budweiser’s voodoo guy from New Orleans was captivating, and their baby Clydesdale saga was heartwarming.  Taco Bell’s old dudes’ night on the town was comical.  Tide’s surprise MontanaLand entry really was a hit.  A guy gets a stain on his shirt that looks like Joe Montana.  People come from everywhere to see it until his wife, a Ravens fan, washes it.  And how about that HEB commercial?  The one where the CEO says Holy Guacamole.  Bad.  Very bad.

For our group the winner was the M&M guys all the way.  Very funny bit where one of the M&M’s sang about how he would do anything for love – even go shopping.  But then he transitioned into a few things he would not do – like when the girls tried to eat him or bake him into a cookie.  Reminded me of how glad I am that the song Jesus sang never made that transition.  He literally did everything for love.  Even died.

Football game?  Was there a football game?  Must have missed that one.  What product was it advertising?

Psalms 65:1-3 says, “Praise awaits you, O God, in Zion; to you our vows will be fulfilled.  O you who hear prayer, to you all men will come.  When we were overwhelmed by sins, you forgave our transgressions.”

Father, thank you for giving a clear look at what love really is.  Amen.
