October 14 – “In the GC Zone”

We have started making some plans to take a mini-trip sometime in the hopefully near future.  Just a road trip, so not that far or anything.  But it is a trip, nonetheless.  Nope.  No details are forthcoming.  At this point our destination will be a surprise to us, too.  Besides, I still have a neurosurgeon appointment to contend with next week …

But all that considering put us in the mood for a date … of sorts.  It was a multi-faceted affair.  First we went to Academy.  I had to spend the ten-dollar gift coupon I got from being a Coastal Conservation Association member.  That coupon has stocked my fishing tackle box over the years.  This time, though, I needed some new shoes, so that’s where it went.  We also picked up a birthday present.

And while we were in the GC (gift card) Zone, we also had one for Salsa’s, and Salsa’s IS right next door to Academy.  So … there was our lunch.  My quesadillas were pretty good.  Chris wasn’t so impressed with her chicken enchiladas, though.  Oh, well.  Maybe next card will be different.

Next we headed over to WalMart to pick up some groceries.  Well, at least that was our intent, and we DID buy groceries.  But they didn’t have any sugar on the shelves.  Well, unless you count the 55 gallon drum-sized bags on the bottom shelf.  No sugar.  How basic is that?  There were some other things they unexpectedly didn’t have, either.  I think Chris is very close to switching to Kroger’s.  Doesn’t really matter to me … just so I get to eat.

Back home, Chris spent the afternoon quilting.  I did some work on the sermon and made some phone calls.  Then last night we watched the Astros game.  Sad conclusion to that one, but kudos to the Rays’ defense.  Thus ended our date day.  Pretty creative, huh?

Matthew 6:7-8 says, “And when you pray, do not keep on babbling like pagans, for they think they will be heard because of their many words.  Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him.”

Father, thank you for all the folks who share things with us like gift cards.  We really do appreciate the chance to turn them into date-ish excursions.  Amen.
