We can sure tell what Cailyn has been hearing at home with a Mommy in nursing school. The last few times she has spent the night we hear things like:
Cailyn (as she concentrates intently on a crossword puzzle book): "I can't go to sleep yet, Nani. I have to do my clinicals."
Nani: "But it's night-night time."
Cailyn: "It's all right. It's gonna be a long night tonight, Nani. I'll just have to sit up all night for my test and then my clinicals."
Nani: "It's gonna be a long night, all right.
The other day she looked into her Daddy's ears.
Daddy: "What do you see in there?"
Cailyn: "I see … a cow."
Daddy: "Look in my ears. What do you see in there?"
Cailyn (Looking in the first ear): "I see … Dora. And …" (Looking in the other ear) "… Boots."
Apparently she had been to the doctor and that was the technique her doc had used to keep her still on the exam table.
On numerous occasions her baby doll has suddenly taken ill and had to be admitted to the "I just patending" hospital. She considerately applies a band aid to whatever part of the body appears to be impaired. She nestles it carefully under the covers. She talks sweetly to it, assuring it that "It's gonna be OK. You'll feel all better soon." She sings to it, rocks it, and pats it gently. Then she holds her finger to her mouth and utters the proverbial, "Shh, baby's sleeping." She tiptoes out of the room and oh-so-quietly closes the door. All very sweet. That lasts about until she reaches the end of the hall. Then the baby invariably starts crying again, so it's back to the "hospital" room where she has to change the baby's band aid and spend some more time soothing it.
A few weeks back she went to the doctor and was diagnosed with some light asthma. That meant Mom and Dad had to get a nebulizer machine so she could have breathing treatments when wheezing set in. She listened to her lessons on how to use it, and had done well, so they brought it over with her. That's when we learned that she was now practicing her skills on live patients. We walked in on a session she was having with MeeMaw. She had been explaining the intricacies of the nebulizer, but things had gotten eerily quiet for too long. When Chris went in to check on them, Cailyn was giving MeeMaw a treatment. Without using the machine. She had convinced her to drink some of the medicine straight out of the container. It is supposed to be dissolved and inhaled as steam. Wow. A cold turkey nebulizer treatment. Guess it cleared out MeeMaw's sinuses. She seemed fine, but Nurse Cailyn had to attend some inservice training.
1 Peter 3:10-12 says, "Whoever would love life and see good days must keep his tongue from evil and his lips from deceitful speech. He must turn from evil and do good; he must seek peace and pursue it. For the eyes of the Lord are on the righteous and his ears are attentive to their prayer, but the face of the Lord is against those who do evil."
Father, help me with the being righteous part. We could sure use those good days and answered prayer and loved life. Amen.
