It was back to the back yard yesterday. For Spring to be a time of new life and growth, so far it's about to kill me. The results are looking good, though. We started out with a trip to Home Depot for mulch, dirt and some flowers. That's how much I knew going in. Chris, of course, already had a picture in her mind of how everything was going to look three or four years from now. I have learned to not even try to follow her when it comes to stuff like that. It's more fun for me to just be amazed when it happens, and to watch that look of "Yes. That's what I was talking about" come over her face.
The dirt I got. We decided the area under the stairs to the deck needed to be raised some more so it wouldn't become quite the pond when it rains. And the mulch I have learned about over the years. She named two plants that she was interested in. One was easy – rose. That was the first bush we ever dealt with back when we bought our first house. We had one that climbed all over our fence. As it turned out yesterday, though, she went with one that had a very pretty flower, but it was not the climbing variety. OK by me. The other plant she mentioned had one of those weird Latin plant names that sounded something like "Aggie's pants." Very pretty as well. Long skinny stem with a bunch of delicate looking blue flowers at the end. Three of them now surround our birdbath. Kind of like decorating their spa, I guess. Oh, I almost forgot. We also picked up some hunks of grass sod to give the big empty area in the back a jump start.
So there was my morning. Planted grass. Leveled out the dirt under the stairs. Planted Aggie's pants. Planted the rose bush. Mowed the grass. Took the Weed eater and cleared a path next to our fence on the neighbor's side. That yard is looking really bad again. Yesterday was the deadline for them to do something. We'll see. Emails begin again Monday morning.
Today is Palm Sunday, and it's one of the days I plan a lot of extra stuff. Not as big as Easter though. Sunrise service on the beach. Baptism in the Gulf. Always look forward to that one.
1 Peter 1:22 says, "Now that you have purified yourselves by obeying the truth so that you have sincere love for your brothers, love one another deeply, from the heart."
Father, speak to some folks today through the creative Palm Sunday stuff. Amen.
