September 1 – “Happy September”

So today we officially enter into the peak of hurricane season here on Galveston Island.  Happy September.

Thank you to everyone who prayed for Chris yesterday.  We went to her appointment with the lawyer handling some problems that came up with her mother's will.  It was quite stressful for her to say the least.  It's been a year since her Mom died, and the wounds from the family squabble are still raw.  About the only thing accomplished was that the lawyer got more information and some new orders to act upon.  We'll see how it goes.  This thing could string out for a long time, and we are just ready for it to be over.

We stopped by Sam's on the way home.  The three main things we went for were an adding machine, two paper towel dispensers, and some sausages.  "Adding machine" sounds so antique doesn't it?  All we wanted was one of those contraptions with the roll of tape on top so we would have the printed record of the offering count that the bank likes.   Apparently the manufacturer thought so too.  Now it's called a "Professional Desktop Printing Calculator."  Just looks like a bigger version of the one in my drawer with a roll of paper on top.

The paper towel dispensers are something we're going to try with the school kids this year.  I heard we're up to nine students now.  WooHoo.  Anyway, we'll see if there is not so much waste of paper if they have to pull it from the center rather than the kind we have now that dispenses "one flat towel at a time."  We'll move those downstairs into the worship center bathrooms.

And finally the sausages.  It took us two trips to Sam's to even find these.  The last time we went we searched what we thought was high and low and never did locate them.  We checked with the guy who told us about them.  He let us know that they were not actually in the store part.  They were kept in the freezer behind the snack bar.  And you have to ask for them.  How is the typical male going to find something if he has to asks for it?  It was a struggle, but with Chris' help I was finally able to approach the clerk and begrudgingly point to the posted list and weakly say what I wanted.  The sausages, by the way, are for our big Labor Day J.A.M. and block party and school open house scheduled for this Saturday from 4 to 7 p.m.  (That's an invitation if you didn't hear it).  We're having musical groups from several churches come and sing.  We'll also have bouncy houses and games set up for the kids, and sausages will be available, served amazingly like hot dogs.  Hence the Sam's purchase.

Josh and his crew are due in tonight, and I still have to finish up the teaching for home group and for Sunday.  Oh, and Cailyn will be here around nine.  Guess that's why I woke up so early.  Five a.m.  That's another WooHoo.

Proverbs 24:26 says, "An honest answer is like a kiss on the lips."

Father, give Chris and her brothers and sister peace in all the turmoil about their Mom's will.  Show your power even in such a tense situation.  Amen.
