Chris' birthday was a treat yesterday. I spent a lot of the day working on Sunday's teaching and preparing for a possible substitute run last night. Cory was scheduled to teach at youth group, and he texted me to say he was working in High Island and wasn't sure he could get back in time. I got something together, but he made it. In fact he was already at the church when we arrived. I didn't figure he would be that late, though. His girlfriend goes back to college this weekend and he wouldn't want to miss another second with her. Quite the romantic, that Cory.
Mom went to Libbie's Place for the day. She seems to really enjoy going. As far as she is concerned, it's the place where she does her exercises and doesn't have to get wet. She completely rebelled at the water exercise class she was in. But along with the exercise she also gets a great meal and some snacks and yesterday they had two sisters who came in and did some singing for them. One played the fiddle and the other was on the piano. Sounds like they were extremely upbeat and had quite a few toes tapping. Next month they are coming back with an accordion. I may go that day. This afternoon is a big open house of the new facility. Mom is excited about going back for that party, too, so it's on our agenda for sure.
Back to Chris' birthday. We drove into Texas and went to Gringo's for lunch. Nathan, April, Cailyn, and Kel joined us. Christina and the boys were at a water park in Baytown. It's been a long time since we have had Mexican food. It is Chris' all time favorite, though, so we had to find a way to fit it into her birthday. Mexican food and some of her children. She was happy. She was also blown away by all the good wishes on Facebook. She commented that it was hard to keep on top of it. And then she got a call from Josh last night, so all of her children touched base. Thanks to everyone who contacted her, by the way. You know the old saying, "When Momma Chris is happy, everybody's happy."
Proverbs 23:13-14 says, "Do not withhold discipline from a child; if you punish him with the rod, he will not die. Punish him with the rod and save his soul from death."
Father, thanks for our boys. Walk with them and their wives and children in every stage of their life journeys. Especially when things get tough. Amen.
