Today is Chris' birthday. She is back to being just one year younger than me after two days of being a mere child.
We had Cailyn around Monday evening. Her Mommy went to the Texans football game and her Daddy was at work. We turned the game on the TV so she could see what we were talking about. That's when the fun began. She looked at the screen for a long time, and finally asked, "Mommy there?" We guaranteed her she was. "Mommy at football game?" Yes, we again assured her. She stared at the action again for a long time, then continued playing.
After awhile she asked, "Where's my Mommy?" We went through the whole thing again. The third time, though, she glanced at the TV about the same time they panned the crowd. "That's my Mommy," she exclaimed. And the excitement began. From that point on until we changed the channel, every time they panned the crowd, Cailyn was right there, searching for her Mommy. If she didn't see her, she would change her proclamation to "My Mommy's there at the football game."
And then it happened. They panned the crowd and stopped with a closeup of a young lady who had her face painted one half white and one half blue. Quite the rabid Texans fan was she. Cheer wildly, laughing and hamming it up for the camera. She was about the same age and build and body type as Cailyn's Mom. And Cailyn saw her. And her little eyes lit up like stars. "That's my Mommy. She's there. That's my Mommy. That's my Mommy." So, April. You didn't have the makeup on when you left, but you had plenty of time to apply it after you left. Next time come on over in full costume. We'd love to have some pictures.
Proverbs 23:12 says, "Apply your heart to instruction and your ears to words of knowledge."
Father, teach me something new today. Amen.
