July 14 – “Corn and dogs”

The group from Birdville is doing a great job at Seaside this week.  Along with leading out in Vacation Bible School, they are painting walls and sanding rails and doing construction work at another site.  One lady is doing an amazing wall mural in our new building.  And I'm now in it.  She painted me in baptizing Alexa in the Gulf.  You have to see this.

Last night was VBS Family night.  They invited parents and friends of the children to come up for corn and hot dogs.  Yep.  Corn.  Not corn dogs.  Just corn.  Lots of it.  That was one of the most random menu items I have ever seen for one of these events.  And the funny thing is, it was incredibly popular.  They had a huge trough of the stuff, and kids and parents alike were piling two and three helpings onto their plates.  Corn and dogs.  Sounds like a fund raiser for next year's camp.

And of course we sang the song "Father Abraham," which has some of the wildest and most exhausting motions that go along with it.  And it's still incredibly fun.  And now it incredibly hurts.  Chris said she would have no sympathy for me, though, because of my antics.  So for all practical purposes I am doing just fine today.  Wince.  Groan.

The praise team practiced last night.  I thought they were going to be singing for/with the youth from Birdville.  Their youth pastor asked me to invite them to do it.  But their kids got involved with playing outside with some of the VBS kids among other things, so the singing together didn't work out.  The team sounded great, though.  They had a guest drummer (Marcus) to help out on the new drum set.  And the time together gave them a chance to get some sound checks in the new location.

Proverbs 18:24 says, "A man of many companions may come to ruin, but there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother."

Father, thank you for friends who are very close by and for friends who are separated by many miles.  The location doesn't really matter when the bond is real.  Amen.
