April 4 – “Delayed Delivery”

The Easter Sunrise Service was amazing this morning.  Our guy who was counting people told me he stopped at three hundred.  He said that was enough for him.  We ended up with two young men getting baptized.  The water was really cold, but the air outside wasn't bad at all, so when we got out it was actually nice.  I think I may need to get someone to help me with the baptisms next week.  The first guy in particular was pretty strong and stocky, and when he went backwards I lost him in the wave.  We both were knocked off balance, but neither of us actually fell.  Then when the same thing happened with the next guy, and he was very thin, I knew the problem was more with me than them or the waves.  I just didn't have enough strength to hold on to their arm or to get them back upright.  I wonder if or when this new medicine is going to start working.

This afternoon we talked to Kel and Christina.  They told us that for some strange reason there was a major mixup at corporate headquarters of E. Bunny, Inc.  Apparently somebody understood that because there was an egg hunt at Nana and DadDad's yesterday, that there would be no hunting today.  The boys each got an Easter gift, but no eggs were hidden.  Ah.  But no one notified Jachin.  And Jachin knew the way it was supposed to be.  He explained to his parents in no uncertain terms, "No.  That's not the way it's supposed to happen.  The Easter Bunny is supposed to come while I am sleeping.  And he's supposed to hide eggs all over my back yard.  And I'm supposed to look for them when I wake up on EASTER morning."  Well, all right.  We had some flashbacks of their father explaining to us just how things were supposed to happen back when he was about Jachin's age.  Or was that flashbacks of their father from last week?

Now telling that story to Nana and DadDad could only result in one end.  They called corporate and explained the problem.  E. Bunny, Inc. is fairly well known for their customer service, and they proved well up to the task.  Immediately a few dozen plastic eggs filled with goodies were shipped to Jachin and Micah's house, along with a note apologizing for the late shipment and personalized with the paw and ear print of E.B. himself.  A call was made to their Dad asking him to assure the absence from the yard of all dogs and small children.  A follow-up call informed him that the delivery was complete and that E. Bunny, Inc. hoped that the inconvenience would not permanently damage the psyche of two young children.

I talked to Kel later to try to get an idea of how they reacted.  He just said they only found 23 eggs, and they had moved on to the next thing – playing with their uncles.  Maybe later I can ask Christina what she thought their reaction was like.  At least the boys got what they needed this afternoon – spoiled.

Luke 24:45-47 says, "Then he opened their minds so they could understand the Scriptures. 46 He told them, 'This is what is written: The Christ will suffer and rise from the dead on the third day, 47 and repentance and forgiveness of sins will be preached in his name to all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.'"

Father, thank you for a warm day and two baptisms and however many people you drew to the beach at 6:30 and for our grandkids … all of them.  Amen.
