February 12 – “Ten inches”

We just had two people come for home group last night.  Well, two "extras" besides me and Chris and Mom.  It was great to spend some time talking to just Cory and Janell, though.  They are having their first baby, and had a lot to talk about, with names and furniture and doctors and such.

Today was Friday, so that meant my "official" day on site at Seaside Christian Academy.  It's also my chance to get something for Chris for Valentine's Day.  I have an idea, but I haven't had a chance to go look for it.  I should have done it last week while she was at her Mom's.  But who thinks about Valentine's Day a week in advance?  I'm a guy.

We got a text message from Josh.  He wanted to know what was going on in the outside world.  Now that was an unusual request.  Until we found out what was going on.  There was ten inches of snow on the ground.  And they had no power.  Thankfully they have a gas powered fireplace.  In fact he just had the silly thing repaired so they could use it.  Now they can bask in the warmth of the 67 degrees right in front of the fireplace rather than endure the 60 or so everywhere else in the house.  In fact, they were alternating sitting in front of the fireplace and going outside to play in the snow.  Zakary and Caleb were running out of dry clothes.

Tonight we were invited over to Kel and Christina's for a Valentine's dinner of pizza.  Actually the first invitation was for a Valentine cupcake made by Micah and his Mom.  The pizza part came a few minutes later.  The food was great.  It's always fun to hang out with Jachin and Micah.  I got to see their ant farm.  I was educated.  It seems the ants are living in their food.  Ant farms have come a long way since the days when you made your own with a Mason jar full of dirt.  The highlight of the evening for the boys was the movie.  Tonight was their regular family movie night, so we got to see that time-honored classic, "The Adventures of Shark Boy and Lava Girl."  We could have seen it in 3D, but they didn't have enough glasses.  Hey, I was enthralled without the gimmick.  What did I get out of it?  "Dream during the day – with your eyes open - and you can change the world."

John 12:35-36 says, "Then Jesus told them, 'You are going to have the light just a little while longer. Walk while you have the light, before darkness overtakes you. The man who walks in the dark does not know where he is going. 36 Put your trust in the light while you have it, so that you may become sons of light.' When he had finished speaking, Jesus left and hid himself from them."

Father, guide my dreams.  Amen.
