February 11 – “Next Wave”

Today I waded through the membership and attendance rolls of the church.  We are trying to get a handle on just how many folks we lost because of Hurricane Ike and how many we need to seek out and minister to.  We reported 138 member before the storm.  After the storm it looks like we are down to around 85.  We are seeing a lot of new faces, though, so God is bringing us some folks.  You just can't keep his church down.  I can't wait to see who all God will include in his "next wave" for Seaside.

I really get tickled at Mom sometimes.  There are several TV shows that we try to tape and watch when we get a chance.  Criminal Minds is our new favorite, but we like some others as well.  The Biggest Loser is one of my favorites, thanks to Cindy Bell, my pastor's secretary and school administrative assistant.  Then there's Mercy, about a transplant hospital.  The jury's still out on that one.  NCIS and NCIS Los Angeles are definite favorites, as are Numbers and CSI (the original only.  Chris can't stand CSI Miami).  But one that I really like is House – the Sherlock Holmes of the television medical world.  Now Mom has strong feelings about House as well.  It's her "one she loves to hate."  She doesn't hesitate to say things like: "Oh, there's that horrible man."  "Oh, how awful."  "That man is so mean."  "Why is he so hateful."  But she remains glued to the set until the show is over.  I think we have a true House fan.  Funny lady.

Nahum 1:7 says, "The Lord is good, a refuge in times of trouble.  He cares for those who trust in him."

Father, I just thought it was neat that even Nahum says you care for those of us who trust you.  Amen.
