We got our walk in. I thought for a fleeting moment that Chris would forego it in favor of our fairly long to-do list. But no. We were off.
The day before yesterday my hearing aid blew out. The other one. We went down to the clinic and dropped it off. Same drill as last time. And I received the same phone call later in the day. Receiver kaput. Another $130, please. Took care of that one first. Well, after a quick stop at Academy to see if they had a certain brand of tennis shoes for Chris (Sketchers). They didn’t.
After the hearing aid retrieval, we headed back down Broadway to our best friend store - Home Depot! Not for another fridge, though. Just needed a new switch to replace one that went bad in the kitchen.
We did make a brief run to the home appliance section. Wanted to let our sales person know we got the fridge. Of course she wasn’t working. But we do appreciate your help, Mia.
Next we went to Randall’s. Not even for a prescription this time. They had some pretty substantial sales going on, not the least of which was Blue Bell for $5.49. Hard to pass that one up. We also nabbed a basket full of those soups for cooking dressing and chicken enchilada pie and the like. Got a bunch of them. 77 cents each.
Back home I bit the bullet and made what I hoped would be the final complaint call to Home Depot. At least regarding our fridge fiasco. For some insane reason we had to actually receive a working fridge before they would approve any discount. But there was little to discuss. All she had to do was read the file. We ended up with something like a 25% discount. We’ll take it.
But … as I was dealing with that phone call, I got an email that our Home Depot bill needed to have something paid on it by Tuesday. Hard to do when we haven’t even received the bill in the mail. Not to mention the fact that Monday is a holiday. Sigh. Guess they’ll be hearing from me again soon.
To end on a positive note, though, we started moving stuff into the new fridge. I don’t think I’ll miss the extra bonus steps we earned every day between the kitchen and the substitute fridge in the laundry room.
Philippians 2:3 says, Do nothing out of rivalry or conceit, but in humility consider others as more important than yourselves.
Father, thanks for you for the discount … and the sales … and especially for my hearing aid. Amen.
