Off the island yesterday. Chris had two different doctor appointments, so we made the trip a date. That does count as a date, doesn’t it? After all, we DID get some lunch at Subway in between the appointments. And we took a walk together around and around the parking lot to kill time - er, I mean - to enjoy each other’s company. Yep. Date. Check.
Oh.
The appointments. The first one was a hearing test. She came through that one
with a result of mild hearing loss that doesn’t really need a hearing aid yet.
The tinnitus (pronounced either Tin it tuss, or tin EYE tuss - you’d choice),
is just something that won’t go away. She’s just supposed to keep constant
background noise going around her to mask it out. Like the TV. Sounds good to
me. Especially during baseball season.
The
second test was a little trickier. They were gonna put her in a barber chair
with some goggles on and spin the chair around. Sounded like a lot of fun to
me. Wheee! But they found out she was really claustrophobic, so that one
got nixed. She still had to wear the goggles for Plan B. But this time
she had to follow a light without moving her head while the put her in numerous
positions - on her sides, her back, sitting up, lying down. All designed to
make her dizzy. I stayed in the waiting room this time. They said the test
could take up to two hours, and a lot of it was in the dark. Hey. I don’t need
dark to doze off. So I stayed in the light and read my latest novel.
But
wait. When they finished Plan B they began to tug at Chris’ proverbial
heartstrings. They used “those words.” Yep. “If we do the other test, it
will give more information.” Ouch. Done and done. About all she could say
when she came out? “It was horrible, but at least I didn’t throw up.”
Hoorah!
Ephesians 2:8-9 says, “For it is by grace you
have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the
gift of God— not by works, so that no one can boast.”
Father, some
of these tests Chris has had to undergo sure seem weird. Please give the docs some wisdom so they can
use them to figure out a way to go for the future. Amen.
