January 8 – “Caleb”

Our day today began at 10:30 last night.  I think that was about when we got a phone call from Josh and Christi that her water had broken and they were about to head for the hospital.  That meant a four and a half hour drive before we could get any sleep.  And by "sleep" I mean whatever that is you do in a hospital waiting room. 

 

We arrived at Arlington Memorial Hospital around 3 a.m. and began our vigil.  Josh came out a time or two with updates.  Christi's parents arrived to join us.  And finally, at 8:02 a.m., Caleb Braden Vaughan was born.  He was a little tyke.  He weighed 5 pounds 3 ounces and was eighteen inches long.  He came out "bellerin'" though.  He must have cried non-stop for his first two hours of live.  You would think we woke the little guy up from an extended nap or something.  He was perfectly healthy, and Christi was doing great.  Well, only her left side was numbed by the epidural, and when they tried to give her another dose for the right side, it just made the left side more so.  That meant it took longer for her to get over it, but she's doing great now.

 

We went back with Josh to pick up Zak, have lunch, and take a short nap in the afternoon, but we headed back up as soon as we could see somewhat straight.  Once we got back to the hospital we got to watch Zak as his mom and dad introduced him to his little brother.  OK.  Everybody out there say, "Aaaah, how cute!"  (Because it was).  Zak hugged him and gave him a kiss on the top of his head.  He even held him in his lap.  And boy, did Chris take the pictures.  We have a good start on our grandparent photo file for this little guy.  You know what? As tired as I am right now, I enjoyed this so much, I think I'll do it again.  Wednesday.  With Cailyn.

 

Psalm 139:14 says, "I will praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well."

 

Father, your works are wonderful, indeed.  And this particular work is named Caleb.  Thank you.  Amen
