January 2 – “The Appliance Day”

Today we did something we have never done before.  We spent over five thousand dollars.  Well, we put it on a credit card that charges no interest for a year.  The plan is to use our insurance money – either from our contents or when we get the full amount from flood for the house.  Now, wait a minute.  We have spent a lot more than that at one time before.  After all, we did buy a house – and a car.  But today we spent all that money to replace our kitchen appliances.  Refrigerator, cooktop, oven, dishwasher, freezer, vent hood, icemaker.  We spent all morning in Sears.  The sales guy was in hog heaven.  Seems that we weren't the only Galveston people he had been dealing with.  I guess he made some serious commissions today.

Now, our house won't be ready to receive any of them for several months.  I was wondering where we would store them until then.  Oh!  I forgot to explain why we had to buy them today.  It was the big January white sale.  Included all appliances.  Kenmore was 20% off.  Everybody else was 10%.  On top of that they had a price matching thing going on.  The fridge we picked out was on sale at Home Depot for less than Sears, so we got their price, plus 10% of the difference.  All told, by doing this today we ended up saving over a thousand dollars.  That will come in handy later on.

Come to find out, the storing thing won't be an issue after all.  Our sales guy scheduled the delivery for the middle of February, and he said if we had to push it back, there would be no problem.  So they are going to hang on to the appliances until we are ready for them, then bring them all at once.  They are there.  Waiting.  Until we are ready.

Sounds a lot like Jesus.  He's there, waiting.  He's not going to force us into anything.  If he did, it wouldn't be real.  Without the choice, love is not real.

In Revelation 3:20, Jesus says to the church, "Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with him, and he with me."  Knocking.  Waiting.

Father, come on in.  Amen.
