December 3 – “A Third Name”

I forgot what it feels like to be tired and sore.  It hasn't been all that long since we stopped our everyday work on the house.  Today reminded me.  I started pulling down the ceiling and insulation in the rest of the house.  Not a difficult job.  Kind of fun, actually.  But all that looking up and dodging falling sheetrock does make for a sore body at the end of the day.  Finished two rooms, though.  Even wheelbarrowed out the debris.  Now all we have to do is pull nails.  Woo Hoo!  Maybe we can finish the rest tomorrow.  Then we can start pulling out the old wires.

We got our windstorm insurance check today.  Actually we got two.  One was for the damages to our roof and fence, and the other was the rest of our living expenses.  Now that was a pretty exciting letter to open.  Well, it was three letters.  One for each check and one for the letter telling us that we better get our roof replaced and inspected by a certified windstorm insurance inspector or they would cancel our insurance.  Gave us 120 days to get the job done.

So, finally we could get going on our new roof.  And maybe the back fence.  All we had to do was deposit the checks and call the contractor, right?  Not so much.  There was a third name on the checks.  Of course there was.  We do have a mortgage, after all.  And there was Countrywide's name along with mine and Chris'.  So how do we go about getting their signature?  I called our agent, and they said to call Countrywide direct.  Figures.  I did make the call, and Estella was very helpful.  All we have to do is send them the checks and a copy of the adjuster's report, and a letter with our policy number on it.  Then they will endorse the checks and send them back.  Fair enough.  We've waited this long.  I guess that means the flood insurance check will be the same thing, if we ever get it.

That third name on the checks reminded me that we don't really own our house.  In fact we don't really own anything.  Not even our body.  1 Corinthians 6:19-20 says, "Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your body."

Father, do what you want with our house.  The one on Sycamore and the one I'm walking around in.  Amen.
