The fact that our fundraiser for children’s camp was officially rained out yesterday gave us an unexpected day to prepare for our trip. I guess the unexpected part made it kind of hard to figure out what to do next. Chris was on top of her list, though. The National Parks books and maps as well as all the paraphernalia that accompanies such excursions (binoculars, camera, backpacks, etc.) now dot the landscape of our sadly empty puzzle table. I waded through the upcoming bills and got together whatever we need Nathan and April to take care of in that category while we are gone. I think I have the books and computer stuff we need all set aside. It’s hard for me to graduate to thinking about that stuff before I get through Sunday. Big day, you know. Especially because we are supposed to have a baptism in the Gulf today.
I
helped Nathan take apart the fridge door ice and water dispenser
yesterday. Yep. With him around projects are a lot easier to
attempt. We did find the broken part,
too. A chunk of plastic. What we thought would cost over $200 only
turned out to be $35 or so. Problem was,
the part for our fridge – in black to match the rest of the machine – is back-ordered
and wouldn’t be delivered until sometime in September. And it would cost at least ten dollars more
than any other color. We tried several
different online distributors, but it was the same story everywhere. We finally found someone who had the part in
stock, but only in a “dark gray” color.
Done. The gray one arrives
sometime next week. Now we wait.
The
dogs seem to be getting the hang of the inside/outside/ avoid each other at all
costs routine. Actually Chris has
figured out a schedule for them. It’s
like living with a houseful of toddlers.
Nathan
and April and Cailyn treated us to a home-cooked meal for dinner last
night. Fried shrimp (and some baked
in the oven for Chris, which were really good, actually). Even a few fresh crabs to crack and pick. An array of mixed fresh vegetables, roasted
to perfection (Corn, broccoli, beans, potatoes. By the way, I even ate a brussel sprout – is that
how you say the singular? – pat me on the back). It was a really good treat. Thank you, guys. In exchange, how about we let you have our
house for a few weeks? Deal?

Peter 1:3 says, “Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus
Christ! In his great mercy he has given
us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the
dead.”
Father,
thank you for the help Nathan and April and Cailyn have been to us. Watch over them and grease some wheels for them
as they get all situated with their new house.
Amen.
