We had a fun day at church yesterday. Actually, it was our guests that made it so special. First, our little dog Freddy made an appearance. Cailyn came, too, as Freddy’s handler. I told the story of how she came to be adopted by us. That involved three things:
We
had to pay her medical bills.
We
had to agree to take care of her from now on.
And
we had to give her a name.
It
all worked together to make a good point for the teaching:
Jesus
paid the price for our sins.
He
takes us into his family and cares for us from now on.
He
gives us his name – Christian.
And
then we got to experience an amazing video from the Humphries Family where they
shared their take on what adoption means to them. It was fun to see them in their element …
snow. Lots of snow. Here’s a few snippets of their message:
When
asked if an adopted family loves her even when she’s bad, Syd immediately responded,
“Especially when I’m bad!”
Moriah
noted, “Out of all the kids that want to be adopted they chose me.”
And
the two boys had a take on how long an adoption was designed to last. Tossing handful after handful of snow into
the air, they cried, “Forever! Forever!
Forever!”
After
dropping Freddy off at home, we went to a home blessing for new Seasiders
Stewart and Sonya. They brought in pizza
and made a salad. I did a little house
blessing ceremony that we all took part in.
It was a nice time of fellowship.
Next
we headed out west again. First we
dropped off a delivery in Bay Harbor, then made the trek off island to the Blue
Water RV Resort. Jim and his band were
playing a gig there. Seemed to be a
pretty good crowd, although I’m not too sure what would constitute “good” since
we are decidedly not campers of any shape, form or fashion. One whole table was other Seasiders,
though. Ray was celebrating his
birthday, so he provided a cooler full of drinks for whoever wanted them. Some folks even danced. Cailyn refused to dance with me, though. Can’t believe she wasn’t impressed by my insanely
awesome rock moves. She did agree to
dance with another guy from the church, though.
And as she followed him onto the floor, she tossed over her shoulder, “HE
knows how to dance.” Ouch. Later, though, she told me that she would rather
have been dancing with me. I guess the
two-step is now on my list to learn how to do before she gets married, so I can
dance with her at her wedding. Oh, and
some wild lady even managed to drag Chris onto the dance floor to join me at
one point. It wasn’t exactly ballroom,
but I guess we managed …
Proverbs
13:6 says, “Righteousness guards the person of integrity, but wickedness
overthrows the sinner.”
Father,
thank you for adopting us. Being a part
of your forever family is simply amazing.
Amen.
