Here’s a fast and furious update of our day
yesterday. We actually overslept (6:45
instead of my usual 6-ish). And on a
Sunday, no less.
So our first big Saturday venture was to
Target to try to get some Christmas shopping in. Pretty successful, I suppose. They had several things on sale that we took
advantage of. Still not finished, but we
did make a dent.
Then Noa and Ezra came over to join us for
the Jamaica Beach Christmas festivities.
The event started at the park where golf carts galore were lined up for
the big little parade through the village.
Flanked by police cruisers and the fire department chief vehicle, the
carts wound their way around the village until they returned to the park for
stage two of the festivities.
And stage two involved a real fire truck
and a certain North Polian resident making a special visit. But while we waited for his grand entrance,
we had to try out the playground, with its slides and places to climb and
eventually with the other children it attracted.
We also joined other children in a big
cookie decorating venture under the pavilion.
Ezra attacked a Christmas tree cookie, and Noa’s looked suspiciously
like ol’ Santa himself. And speaking of
the old elf, the faraway sound of a fire engine’s siren caught everyone’s
attention. Ezra anxiously watched from
his post outside the pavilion. Noa, on
the other hand, took a different approach.
I tried to get her to come outside and welcome Santa, but she had
another idea and wouldn’t budge. See,
she was determined to be first in line to sit on the old boy’s lap. And her patience and sacrifice paid off. She got her wish. First in line to sit on Santa’s lap. Nice job, Noa. Of course Ezra went into his shyness routine
and wouldn’t get close to the guy. He
did accept a candy cane from the elf assistant, though.
We decided to get the two little guys home
so they could get ready for bed, so we missed out on the decorated boat parade
last night. We did get to see the movie
Sandlot with Noa and Ezra’s three older brothers, though, before Mom and Dad
got home. Pretty good evening of
Christmas fun …
1 John 2:6 says, “Whoever claims to live in him must live as Jesus did.”
Father, thank you for the chance to do a
little Christmas with a couple of special little kiddos yesterday. Amen.
