We
completed our Servolution project yesterday, and I would say it was a
success. We provided drinks and snacks
for voters and campaigners and election judges who were assigned to our
building as a voting site. Seasiders
brought up cookies and sandwiches and energy bars, and we had a big cooler of
soft drinks and water and a pot of coffee brewing for folks to enjoy after they
voted. Many of them sat down to chat
with our Seasiders on duty as well. The
judges were especially thankful, and they began steering everyone through the
door toward the snacks instead of out the door they came in. And then when Lauren went back up to the
church to clean things up, our AA group was already meeting, so she told them
to absolutely help themselves. It didn’t
take long for them to love those cookies.
Thank you to everyone who brought up food and to those who stuck around
and greeted folks. And thanks to the
folks from churches all over the Island who are doing Servolution projects even
this morning to show Galveston that Jesus loves them. One group’s project will be to feed those who
have been involved in serving. That will
take place in the Ball High School parking lot around 11:30 for those who can
go.
We
finally got the call yesterday afternoon that Sam was being released from the hospital. And was she ever more than ready to make her
escape. She had already texted me that
she had heard one of those hospital announcements that was code for someone
leaving against medical advice. They called
it an “Elopement Alert.” Cute, don’t you
think? She commented that they were
about to get another one if they didn’t hurry up and get her discharged. Chris and I jumped in the car and headed on
up to pick her up. She has had just
about every test they could think of even remotely related to chest pains. As of yet she still doesn’t have any real answers,
though. She has an appointment at her
doctor’s office on Wednesday, so hopefully she will get some information
then.
Psalms
59:9-10 says, “O my Strength, I watch for
you; you, O God, are my fortress, my loving God.”
Father,
you are invited, as always, to join us at church this morning. Thanks for Sam’s release. And bless those involved in Servolution all
over the Island. Amen.
