Well,
I have been working on finalizing formatting for my book about our experiences
during and after Hurricane Ike. I think
I have narrowed down the number of pictures to be included, and the chapter
divisions seem to break down fairly easily by month. It is the story of what our family went
through when the hurricane swept five feet of water into our house. We weren’t in it at the time, thank
goodness. But it was the nine or so
months afterwards that the book is concerned with. It is a compilation of the blog articles I started
writing back then to stay in communication with the people from Seaside and
with our extended family members. The next
step is to let Chris read through it.
Critic time. Then I gotta get up the
nerve (and the bucks) to get it published.
And for it to have any real effect, it really should come out before
hurricane season ends this year. This is
the tenth anniversary of the storm. We’ll
see …
I
stopped by Central fire station downtown yesterday. The builders are really coming along with the
new station. The foundation is
completely finished, and the schedule says the building should be dried in
within 90 days. That’s some exciting
stuff.
Last
night we went over to the airport Lassie League fields to watch Cailyn play some
softball. Galveston is hosting the
district tournament for 6-and-under and 8-and-under teams. There are teams from League City and Texas
City and Santa Fe, as well as a few from here in town. Nathan and April have been working tirelessly
to get the fields ready for the games.
They have painted and cleaned and repaired just about everything. Nathan was exhausted when we arrived, and
April was just getting off work on top of everything else. Ah, the joys of being on the league board …
Cailyn’s
team did really well in their first game.
It was pool play, so it was more like a warm-up to the actual
tournament, but they soundly defeated their opponent. Cailyn got a hit or two and covered second
base well in her position as sort of modified shortstop. The game ended when, with an opponent runner
on first base and one out, a line drive was hit to our second baseman. She snared the ball and tossed to first for a
game-ending double play. Pretty big
league move there, girls …
Psalms
61:4 says, “I long to dwell in your tent
forever and take refuge in the shelter of your wings.”
Father,
watch over the girls and their families in the tournament today and
tomorrow. It’s going to get really hot
out there. Amen.
