We had a really good crowd at church
yesterday. A few of the college students
came home for the long weekend. Quite a
sacrifice, too. They gave up the Baylor
vs. SMU football game. But sometimes the
allure of seeing Mommy and Daddy again is more than one can bear. Welcome back home, guys.
After church we waited a while before
resuming those two projects we tried to start the day before. The first one wasn’t all that difficult.
Chris wanted a trellis for the climbing rose bush to travel on. The thing has been growing like crazy, but it
just hasn’t found a friend in the chain link fence back there. And it hasn’t put out any blooms at all. So we figured out a way to wire the trellis
to the fence and then weaved the runners through. Chris was pleased with the operation, so that
was good enough for me. Now maybe the
thing will feel at home enough to start producing some roses.
That project settled we turned back to the
unfinished mud pies on the side of the house by the back door. Most of the slate pieces we set the day
before had maintained their position, so all I had to do was fill in the cracks
between them. We decided to try just
setting them with packed dirt instead of the cement. Gives us a chance to see what it looks like
before it goes permanent. We may have to
come back later with the cement, though.
Hate to lose all that work.
We didn’t sleep very much around here last
night. My muscles were twitching me
awake every 30 minutes or so. Very strange
feeling. Not really painful, but annoying
to say the least. And each time I woke
up a joint or two would chime in to indicate their irritation. And then there was Mom. I didn’t count how many times she was up, but
… she was up. I’m looking forward to our
houseful of company today for our family fish fry. If nothing else, maybe the chaos will keep
her awake during the day so she’ll sleep at night.
Ah, but Chris is fixing breakfast bread
this morning, always a major treat. And
I snuck in and added an extra cup of brown sugar to make it extra tasty. Can’t wait.
Psalms 26:8 says, “I love the house where you live, O Lord, the place where your glory
dwells.”
Father, thank you for the beauty of your
nature that we get to see a bit of every time we look outside. Makes the extra work worth it. Amen.
