June 12 – “And Tomorrow …”

Today began with some guarded excitement. Chris was still not feeling really great after her little intestinal problem last night. We took it slow loading up the truck and Explorer with what we could fit in (and what we could lift). We got that load delivered. It was mostly stuff that we intend to store in the closet of the master bedroom – photo albums, videos, baby books – basically the stuff we evacuated with and have brought back. We hoped to meet up with Kel and Nathan and get them to help with what big stuff we have – a couch, loveseat, Mom's bed, a big cabinet for the garage. Along with some of boxes of stuff we have accumulated. High hopes.

One of the painters was there when we arrived. Before we had been there very long some more came. We got our two vehicles unloaded and headed for WalMart to get some of the stuff we needed before we move in – shower curtains and a bar to hang it on, some light bulbs, and some pepsi's and dr peppers. We even grabbed some food from the deli so we could get back to the house.

As we were finishing up, the floor guy came to do his walkthrough. He was very accommodating with everything we asked for. As he was leaving some good friends of ours who moved to Austin drove up. We haven't seen then in several years. They are foster parents and had four kids with them. This is going to be a big vacation for them – Moody Gardens Aquarium. They also offered to help us move. They had a housewarming gift for us – a 42 inch television set. It is really nice. They got a new one and brought this one to us. We were stunned. Now it's time to sign up for cable for sure. I also have to call about a landline telephone and dsl as well as switching the newspaper delivery back to Galveston.

Before we knew what was happening, Nathan and Cailyn were washing clothes. The group of painters had grown to four or five. The electricians showed up to do their last minute repairs. People were running around everywhere. Needless to say, we didn't get much moving done. So … tomorrow.

When everybody left we made a quick trip to Home Depot for shades and cabinet hardware and Office Depot for file cabinets. The painters were the last ones there when we left. And tomorrow we plan to sleep in our new old house.

Lamentations 3:24-26 says, "I say to myself, 'The Lord is my portion; therefore I will wait for him.' 25 The Lord is good to those whose hope is in him, to the one who seeks him; 26 it is good to wait quietly for the salvation of the Lord.

Father, I wait … for whatever you have planned. Amen.
