February 19 - “Champions”

Yesterday morning I tuned up my skills and danced for a long time in the kitchen with AnnaGrace. She may or may not have been considerably better than I was. Caleb and Luke both practiced piano. That helped Luke get his mind off of the upcoming game.  Prior to that Luke was experiencing a little bit of the pregame jitters.

The jitters went away as the game began. The game was pretty intense. After falling to a 9-1 deficit, the good guys chipped away until taking a one-point lead. Then, there was back and forth scoring the whole rest of the way. Finally, with mere seconds on the clock, we were ahead by two.  The opposition was in control of the ball, and their best player launched a three-pointer … and it … rimmed the basket and missed. Final score, 15-13. We win!  Luke scored 11 of the 15 total points. But that was just the semi-finals. The championship game was yet to come, later in the afternoon.

And what a game that was. Highlights in a nutshell? Well, let’s start at the end. Good guys won, 19-16. The boys were each awarded a championship ring. Gotta love the bling.

And now the individual honors … Luke scored 16 of the 19 points. But favorite play of the day came on one of those baskets.  Luke was driving hard to the goal. The defender stepped on his foot and Luke’s shoe started to come off. Not to be deterred, in mid-dribble, Luke simply shook off the shoe, completed his drive, and scored. Clearly the play of the game. Where is ESPN when you need them?  Oh.  And Luke also scored the consensus, not-voted-upon-but-certainly-earned MVP. Not that I’m a proud DadDad or anything …

Psalms 42:1 says, As the deer pants for streams of water, so my soul pants for you, my God.”

Father, thank you for the excitement of our ride back to the house last night. It was fun. Amen.
