May 1 – “LDCs vs. FOGs”

The semi-friendly chaos has officially arrived at our house.  Freddy and Leia (a.k.a. The Little Dog Coalition - LDC) are trying to coexist with the Tilly and Abby (boxers) and Scooter (Boston Bull Terrier) - (A.K.A. The Federation of Giants - FOG).  It has been difficult.  Leia handles it by just retiring to one of the kennels.  Doesn’t matter to her which one, just so it’s safe.  Freddy is a bit braver.  She knows that she can hide behind the humans when the four-legged FOGs make an appearance.  She is actually the one we are worried may cause some problems.  She has even nipped at the FOGs on occasion.  One time on the back porch she walked past a chair on which Scooter was napping.  Scooter happened to choose that particular moment to jump down and stretch his legs.  I’m not sure which one jumped the highest.  Freddy squealed and made a beeline for the back door.  Scooter jumped backwards and almost fell over his own feet.  Not fun for either of them, but kind of entertaining for interested onlookers.  I think we have figured out a peace treaty of sorts.  The LDC’s and FOGs take turns spending time outside with the chickens.

We had to make a quick trip up to the church.  The fund raising event was canceled due to the expected rainy weather.  We had to move the hamburger meat from the fridge and the buns all upstairs into the freezer. Guess we are all set for the rescheduled event on May 29th.  Afterwards we went out to eat at Salsa’s.  Chris had to get a Tex-Mex fix before we head into the Deep South.  Speaking of that trip, we also stopped at WalMart.  Of course.  We wanted to grab some of those mosquito spray wipes just in case.

Last night we went back to see Cailyn perform in her play again.  We went to opening night the night before as well.  The play was “James and the Giant Peach.”  All sixth-graders.  Really well-done.  We did have a difficult time hearing some of them, though. They were required to wear masks.  Bad decision for a drama production.  But apparently one parent expressed some Covid concerns, so they all had to comply.  However … we could hear Cailyn.  She was amazing.  Of course.  Her name is Vaughan, after all.

Isaiah 25:8 says, “he will swallow up death forever.  The Sovereign Lord will wipe away the tears from all faces; he will remove his people’s disgrace from all the earth.  The Lord has spoken.”

Father, would you ease the concerns of these four-legged friends of yours so they can coexist around here without hostilities?  It would really help the stress level of the two-legged ones.  Amen.
