June 9 – “On the Chris Back Front”

I guess the big news is on the Chris Back Front.  She had a doctor’s appointment with the spine doctor yesterday.  He ordered some more x-rays and then compared them carefully with some she had taken several years ago.  Sure enough, one of the vertebrae in her lower back has slipped over the one below it and is rubbing bone on bone and causing numerous bone spurs.  It’s something that wouldn’t show up on an MRI because you are on your back and the bones are relaxed.  While standing the position of the bones is more pronounced.  Of course the protruding discs that she also has were visible on the MRI.

So what is the next step?  She goes to the pain management doctor on Thursday to discuss the phase that includes a round of shots into the area to ease the pain.  He mentioned the word “epidural.”  I thought that was a word that you used in the same sentence as “having a baby.”  Guess there is some carry-over there.  The step beyond those shots is surgery, and Chris is not at all excited about that prospect.

To lighten her spirits a bit, Cailyn came over in the afternoon.  Always a bright spot to our day.  Mom and Dad were both working.  She helped make supper.  Pork chops and mashed potatoes and salad.  Yum.  We were supposed to give her a ride to softball practice, but that was canceled when a thunderstorm rolled through.  When her Daddy picked her up, we sent her home with a few of the anniversary roses to enjoy.

And speaking of roses, later in the evening we met up with Kel after he got off work and sent home a few roses for Noa.  She was admiring them the other day when they were here.  Now … how can we go about getting a few up to AnnaGrace before they wither up?  Hmm …

Colossians 3:23-24 says, “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward.  It is the Lord you are serving.”

Father, please give these docs the wisdom they need to figure out what will ease Chris’ pain.  Amen.
