Yardwork
day was upon us once again. I guess that
means it is finally summer, and we have to trudge through it once a week. As is our custom, I did the mowing and
edging. Chris followed up with the
sweeping and dumping into the trash can.
She also spent some time clearing out interlopers from the flower beds
she has been staying on top of through the Spring. From the perspective of this cratchity old
homeowner, I would say she has this place looking pretty decent. There are flowers of every color, from yellow
to blue to purple to red to pink to a brilliant white. They don’t all bloom at the same time, but
when they do, it is quite the array of beauty.
Add to that the chatter of all the birds passing through and the
cheeping from the nests of the birds that stick around, and we are getting
close to our home in the forest we once had before we had to cut down all the
trees that died after Hurricane Ike.
It’s enough to make you want to stick around for a while longer.
We
did something in the afternoon we haven’t done in a while. We watched not one but two full length
movies. Not at the theater, of
course. They are closed for
renovations. They are becoming one of
those recliner and full meal attractions while you watch the movie places. Weird.
Especially since I can do that here at home. Not that I wouldn’t be interested to
experience such an attraction. But there
is something to be said for the ability to pause the action when you have to go
to the bathroom. Just saying …
Oh,
I almost forgot. The movies we
watched? Mission Impossible II. We saw the first MI the other day. And Number III is on the docket for our next
viewing pleasure. We also watched an
unknown titled Hallmark movie. No idea
what it was called. No need. It was the same cheesy plot we have come to
know and love. Except it wasn’t dressed
up in a Christmas theme with snow and all.
Chris made the comment that it bothered her that the same lady sure was kissing
a lot of different guys. I reminded her
that the last guy she kissed was while she was living in Rome as a travel
guide. They obviously broke up and she
came home. That’s the ugly side of fairy
tale romances, I suppose.
Psalms
27:14 says, “Wait for the Lord; be strong
and take heart and wait for the Lord.”
Father,
thank you for a sense of accomplishment in looking at our yard. And thanks for the relaxing afternoon at the
movies. Amen.
