April 11 – “… with great fear and trepidation”

I spent the better part of the morning at the church waiting for the guy to come inspect our fire extinguishers.  He was an interesting guy.  He parked in the parking lot and just sat there for almost thirty minutes.  Granted, he was early for the appointment time, but what was he doing in there?  Catching up on paperwork?  Early lunch?  Taking a nap?  Who knows?  It didn’t take him long to finish the inspection, though.

Meanwhile Chris was getting her hair cut by our Seasider hair stylist Suzann.  She looks great now.  Very cute.  (That would be Chris, I mean.  Not that Suzann isn’t cute, too.  And not that Chris wasn’t cute before the haircut.  Sigh.  Guess I’d better move on…).  We went to Shrimp and Stuff for lunch (Chris and I).  As it turned out, the lunch was kind of a celebration for us.  And it all related to a phone call.

Well, two phone calls, actually.  The first was from a Seasider who was having trouble with bees who had just swarmed into a tree in her front yard.  She wondered if I could give her the name of the guy who got the bees out of the church a few years ago.  Well, that guy is apparently unreachable, at least by us, but as it so happens, we have a new bee guy coming to the church on Sunday to check out our newest infestation.  I gave her his number.

It was the second call, though, that was the one we had been waiting for.  It came just as our pager buzzed, so I headed outside to take the call and Chris grabbed our meal.  It was from a travel agent.  We have with great fear and trepidation signed up for a cruise to the Panama Canal (Not all the way through to the Pacific Ocean, though.  Just through some of the locks.  Not sure what all that will entail.  It also has some stops in the Caribbean Islands and Central America and Mexico).  It’s not happening until 2020, so it will be sort of a 45th wedding anniversary celebration when it does happen.  Now we just have to pay for it.  At least we have a few years to work on it.  Oh, and here’s the real kicker … we have never been on a cruise of any kind.  Hence the trepidation.

We do still want to go on an Alaskan cruise, too.  No idea how that one will open up.  Different group of friends.  Maybe we can just fly to Alaska and have our friends who live there take us to see all the cool stuff.  Like a moose.  I want to see a moose.  And whales.  Chris wants to see whales.

Psalms 47:5-6 says, “God has ascended amid shouts of joy, the Lord amid the sounding of trumpets.  Sing praises to God, sing praises; sing praises to our King, sing praises.”

Father, please work out all these details for this trip.  And for that Alaska one, too.  I really do want to see a moose.  Oh, and the Bee Guy … help him save those bees – to somewhere else.  Amen.
