There
were lots of folks worshipping with us at Seaside yesterday. Among them were “Four Korean widow ladies” (Their description, not mine) from San
Antonio. They were staying at the time
share condominiums down the road from the church. They really contributed to the teaching, and
one even shared a bit of her salvation testimony. I had just shared the gospel and encouraged
those who might have just committed their lives to Jesus to let someone know of
their decision. She raised her hand
excitedly and said, “I will tell of my salvation.” And she did.
In her thick accent and somewhat broken English she let us have it. Perfect punctuation to the gospel
presentation. I told her she should have
spoken up sooner. I would have let her
do the preaching.
We
had a few more locals visiting us for the first time as well. Our worship pastor Jim was in Oklahoma at a
wedding, so we sang along with videos our computer specialist Bryan picked
out. And the singing was loud. So was the congregational reading of
scripture. Part of it was the extra
numbers, but a lot of it was just the way everyone was getting into the worship
experience. Pretty resounding. Definitely inspiring.
After
church we stopped by Subway and grabbed a sandwich to take home. Bryan and Jennifer joined us. We sure didn’t want to attempt going to a
sit-down restaurant. Not on Labor Day
weekend in Galveston. We had our Subway
Melt and a glass of tea while we waited for the Astros game to start. And Bryan and Jennifer must have seen me
sinking, because they headed for home pretty soon after we ate. The rest of my afternoon was spent in the
recliner cheering on the Astros. Hey,
I’ve called “taking a nap” a lot of things over the years. And I did see a lot of the game. Chris didn’t even try to fake it,
though. She headed into the bed and
curled up. Oh, by the way, the Astros
won. Against the Rangers. That is a rare occurrence.
Last
night we flipped back and forth between Netflix reruns of Bones and the Texas
vs. Notre Dame football game. That
turned into quite the exciting game, too.
Double overtime. Texas finally
won when all Notre Dame could muster was a field goal, and they scored a touchdown. Gotta love it when the underdog comes
through. Even when the underdog is such
a “used to be perennial powerhouse turned weak program.”
I
guess that nap affected me more than I expected, though. I woke up at 2 a.m. and could not get back to
sleep. I finally got out of bed and
worked on my Visual Verses devotional book that I’m writing. I have a long way to go with. I’ve only completed 10 out of 52 verses I plan
to include. I’ll keep everyone updated
as I make progress … If I make progress.

Corinthians 15:20-22 says, “But Christ
has indeed been raised from the dead, the firstfruits of those who have fallen
asleep. For since death came through a
man, the resurrection of the dead comes also through a man. For as in Adam all die, so in Christ all will
be made alive.”
Father,
thank you for the quiet time earlier this morning. Thank you for allowing Chris to sleep. Amen.
