Our pretty, post-Ike refrigerator has been having some issues regarding making ice. We have a separate ice maker machine, so it has not been a crisis or anything. But then we also have a maintenance agreement that covers stuff like that, so today was their day to come check it out. In fact, while he was here we had him check the little toe kick bar in front down by the floor. It has been loose for some time now, and it won't stay on when we push it back in. Of course the first thing he did was fix the toe kick bar. Our problem was in thinking the latch would be in the logical place – near the end of the bar. But, no. It was about six inches in. Easy fix. Amazing what you can do when you have the right knowledge. He spent a little more time on the ice maker. A little. He pulled out the tray, which had two little pieces of ice in it, by the way. He stuck one hand back to the back of the fridge. Then he wrote down all the make and model information. After a quick trip to his van – and his computer, I suppose – he came back in and told us the ice maker needed to be replaced and he had ordered a new one. He will be back next week to install it. That was a quick ten minute job. Maintenance agreements. Insurance policies on appliances. Are they really worth it? And what could possibly be a spiritual application? OK. Having the right knowledge can change everything in how you relate to God. That's why he became a man in the first place, wasn't it? Because we weren't getting the message through the law he sent? And how about that brand new ice maker we are getting. Because of our connection with the company (maintenance agreement), all we had to do was call them up and they took away the old one and replaced it with a new one. All you have to do is be in relationship with Jesus and he will forgive your sins and make you a brand new creature. 2 Corinthians 5:17 says, "Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come!" Father, thanks for making me a new creature. Forgive me when I can't figure out how this newness is supposed to work. Amen. |
