We tried to be quiet upon awakening to let Caleb sleep in. We got word the night before that the plan from the other room was to do the same, except for all of the occupants there to sleep in. Not sure how successful we were. Caleb returned to the mother ship about 8:30.
Chris and I had some breakfast together. The motel served biscuits and gravy and scrambled eggs. I served leftover Dollywood cinnamon bread. Guess which was most popular among our sampling of two?
Before we hit the road, we had a very important stop to make. JOYRIDE RUN! We found a CVS nearby, but it appeared that they had completely sold out. But then … the big manager dude tracked us down and presented us with the very last bag they had. Joyride Run Success!
And then we continued our adventure with a trip to … none other than … Walmart. Just a few items, one of which was … a banana.
But then came a bonus. We stopped at the English Mountain Trout Farm and Grill. We got to fish for our lunch … literally. They had a pond full of rainbow trout. They issued baited cane poles, and you ate what you caught. We shared fried, blackened, and lemon pepper versions of our catch. Really good. Recommend it highly.
So on to Kentucky. In a strange quirk of fate, we just happened to drive right through the parking lot of the Bush Baked Beans Visitor Center and Museum. We didn’t stop, though. That big boat was calling.
And then …
About an hour and a half from our destination, with Chris at the wheel, a blowout! Not one of those explosions with loss of control repercussions, thankfully. And Chris handled it masterfully, easing the car to the side of the road.
We called AAA, but while we were waiting, a Good Samaritan (angel?) stopped to block oncoming traffic and to help us get the donut on.
And said donut was flat, but Josh just “happened” to have an inflator on board. So, before the AAA guy could even begin his trek, we were ready to roll. He did, however, direct us to the nearest Walmart Auto Center, about eight miles back.
And by a “fortunate coincidence” they had just the tire we needed. And amazingly enough, as we pulled up, we were immediately directed into the tire bay by a manager. And as “luck” would have it, as we walked around the store killing time, we “happened” upon the same manager (angel?) from earlier. He told us the car was already ready. Imagine that. Imagine that. Imagine that.
After a quick stop to pick up some fast food chicken, we were back on track for Williamstown, Kentucky. Today is Ark Day. Let’s go.
John 20:21 says, Jesus said to them again, “Peace to you! As the Father has sent Me, I also send you.”
Father, thank you for sending those physical angels and arranging those divine coincidences. We saw and acknowledge and appreciate that you are watching over us. Amen.
