We had
a pretty full day yesterday. Started
with a trip to Houston. We went to see
one of our old Seasiders who had appendicitis and ended up in sepsis and very
nearly died. He is doing a lot better
no, though. He’s still in intensive
care, but he is alert and can communicate.
He has a long road ahead of him. We
actually ran into some hard rain as we were leaving the island, but it didn’t follow
us to Houston.
On
the way back we stopped at Lifeway to pick up some birthday cards for the
church and fire department. We also
picked up some books for Christina’s Bible study she is doing with some ladies
in her church. That meant a quick stop
in LaMarque as well. We had to keep our
eyes open going through their neighborhood.
Sometime the night before their really old dog slipped out of the back
yard and they haven’t been able to find her.
We had no luck, either.
I
found out on the way up to Houston that we have been having a bad problem with
trash overflow at the church. It’s one
thing to have too much trash. It’s quite
another when the birds realize it and toss it all over the neighbor’s
yard. He complained to one of our ladies
today. She went above and beyond being nice
to him. She and a friend also picked up
the majority of the trash and carried it away.
Then she called around to get some prices on dumpsters. Nice work, Lauren. Looks like the dumpster option might be out
of reach for the time being, though.
Chris and I stopped by Sam’s to see if they had some big outdoor cans
with lids. No luck. We did find some at Home Depot, though, so we
picked up two of them. That will get us
started.
Last night
I had to drive back into Texas to do a wedding rehearsal. The wedding is actually tonight in
Houston. The rehearsal was just in Santa
Fe, though. This is going to be a fun
one. There are three little kids
involved in the service, and two of them are wild and crazy. Can’t wait to see what they do during the
service. More about that tomorrow, I suppose.
Gotta
go now. We have to be at the church
around 6:30 for the big pancake breakfast to raise money for playground
equipment. And we have to pick up
Cailyn. She’s on the selection team for
the equipment. We’re off …
James
2:26 says, “For just as the body without
the spirit is dead, so also faith without works is dead.”
Father,
we commit the breakfast to you. We could
sure use the money, but help us all to have some fun as well. Amen.
