All of our local little guys were over last night for a big soup supper. Christina brought some taco soup with chicken in it, and Chris made a pot of vegetable soup with ground beef in it. Pretty good selection in the midst of this present Galveston-style cold snap. It crept into the high fifties again last night. Might have to take a windbreaker along to Jachin's last flag football game this morning. Brr.
After supper we played an assortment of creative games: Jump on DadDad (a perennial favorite), Pile on DadDad (the big difference there was in the number of kids involved at any one time in the course of the action), Run from DadDad (not that the old man actually got off the floor and chased. They just ran by and tried to avoid being snared), Get Tickled by DadDad (this one ordinarily popped up in some for as part of every other game). The evening finally digressed into Play a Board Game with DadDad, but I think that one might have gotten boring for them. Not enough action.
All in all, it was an evening of great fun, though. Chris got a text from Christina shortly after they left: "Josiah is yelling, Nani, DadDad." Then later on she sent a follow-up. Something about him still mumbling Nani and DadDad's name while she was rocking him to sleep. That'll do wonders for the old grandparent ego. Much better than any of the apps on my iphone. I'll go with the "Games with Grandparents" app any time.
Ecclesiastes 4:9-10 says, "Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their work: If one falls down, his friend can help him up. But pity the man who falls and has no one to help him up"
Father, surround those little guys with your love and protection. There's nothing better for them than growing up close to you. Amen.
