We were going to make a quick trip to San Antonio yesterday to watch Zakary play in a t-ball game. Mom was supposed to go to Libbie's Place. We had April set to pick her up and stay with her until we could get back. Didn't happen, though.
Mom woke up in a daze. She wasn't communicating well at all. She sat at the breakfast table and just moved her cereal around with a spoon. She made some interesting designs with her morning medications, too. We finally got her to take the pills, but she was extremely confused. It concerned us enough that we called her doctor. Chris thought it might be a urinary tract infection again. That's not good. She has become prone to them lately, and they do more than just make her feel sick. I don't understand how it works, but they affect her mental processes, and she gets into that confusion mode. And then every time she has had one, she had never quite gotten back up the level of function that she was before. The doctor didn't have any open appointments for yesterday, so they said they would get with the nurse practioner and call back. After three or four hours they finally called back and said to bring her in to take a urine specimen, which is what Chris was wanting to do in the first place. Here's to proper procedures.
The idea was to do a quick test to see if the infection was obvious. If so, they would start her on antibiotics right away. If not, we would have to wait until Monday when the full results come back. Of course the quick test was inconclusive, so they sent her on home and she resumed her constant napping. By that time it was too late to even consider making the four and a half hour jaunt to San Antonio. We sure hated to disappoint Zak and Caleb. We hated the disappointment ourselves, but we are committed to taking care of Mom. As it turned out, we got a call back from the doctor's office later on in the afternoon. They had received a preliminary lab report already and there was definitely an infection. They called in an antibiotic prescription. Now we wait.
Proverbs 28:10 says, "He who leads the upright along an evil path will fall into his own trap, but the blameless will receive a good inheritance."
Father, walk with Mom once again through this infection. Make her healing a rapid one this time. Amen.
