All packed up and loaded up, we left the cave of the budding stalactite and floating Munchkin toilet. Next stop … Walmart. Our Eastern Wilderness guide determined that it would be best to gather supplies for lunch while near civilization. Our ultimate destination? Long ago Colonial Williamsburg.
To achieve our destination we first had to procure safe travel passes for use upon our arrival. That necessitated connection with the proper Link. That garnered enough passes for half of us. The rest of us would have to fend for ourselves.
It took a while, but we managed to break through the barriers before us and arrive in Williamsburg.
It was a quaint village. It took us a bit to get used to the period costumes. I was impressed with how they were sporting them in the incredible heat. Among the highlights:
- A reenactment shooting of one of the cannons the early settlers had access to.
- Ezra being selected to go on trial in the old courthouse for price gouging. He played his role with lots of emotion. One would think he has been witness to anger and outrage in his life. Great job, Ezra.
- Meeting an actual Pinocchio wannabe. Looked just like him - overly long arms and legs. Come to find out, it was an educational tool designed to form every letter of the alphabet with its body. Name of Hotch Potch. Yes. I managed to locate his tiny younger sibling and rescue him. Wanna learn your letters? Hit me up and I’ll get you an introduction.
- We only walked 8,500 steps. A veritable day off.
We did make our way back to the present. No human left behind. At our next hotel stop, while Kel and Christina were checking us in, a guy walked by filming the fronts of each car he passed. Me and Micah and Josiah tracked him to the activities center and asked what he was doing. He started fast talking, claiming he was doing content on social media. He turned his phone back on and began filming. I told him it was not OK for him to film the cars and the people in them, especially when he is filming minors without parent’s permission. He introduced himself, so I did the same. He then turned the camera on Micah and Josiah. Nope. Not OK. As we persisted, he started screaming that he was being harassed.
Ultimately, we walked off. Well, not “off” exactly. The boys went back to the van. I went in to the registration desk and filed an official complaint.
Within minutes the security truck pulled up. The two guys approached Mr. Christian Pinot and let him know he could only record himself. They talked to me next and said to call them right away if we saw him filming anything but himself.
Whew! It was like we were trapped on an episode of somebody’s YouTube. Hope that’s over.
Today’s plan is to go to the beach. That’s right. Galvestonians to the beach. Imagine that. But this is the Atlantic Ocean, big brother to the Gulf of America. Surely it will be different.
1 John 4:16 says, And we have come to know and to believe the love that God has for us. God is love, and the one who remains in love remains in God, and God remains in him.
Father, thank you that Christina got to hang out with their friend, Sarah. And thanks for the history lesson. Amen.
