June 13 - “Here we go again”

Can’t decide if Freddy likes the idea of Chris staying in one place all day so she can be found without roaming the house or backyard … or if she knows something weird is afoot and doesn’t want to miss something, but she just can’t figure this whole thing out. Either way, she is definitely staying close by (read here, “under foot”).

Well, apparently Freddy knew something we didn’t.

Josh called as Chris finished up changing shirts and washing her face. And while we talked, she began to pale out. Said she didn’t feel so good. Sat on the toilet for a bit, then eased to the floor to keep from falling there. BP this time was 96/59. Way low for two days in a row. And I almost called 9-1-1 on this one. Probably would have if we weren’t talking to Josh. She gradually came back to me, but then she couldn’t get up. When she turned to roll over, she couldn’t bear weight on her injured knee. There was nothing I could do to help her.

As it turned out, Josh just happened to be texting with Nathan, who is still in Colorado. That’s all it took. Nathan got on the phone with the fire department guys at station 4. They came right out and got her up and in a chair. Their presence and urging, along with Nathan’s commanding voice on the phone, finally convinced her to go to the ER. The guys even helped her to the car so she couldn’t change her mind.

Right after we got into a room, someone delivered a lunch. Obviously it was not ours, but I jokingly volunteered to eat it. The nurse said go for it. French fries and chicken strips. Fries were soggy. Strips were really good though.

Our nurse was working on the IV when another one opened the door. She frantically spewed out, “Your patient in the other room just threw up what looks like bodily organs. It’s all over the wall and floor. It’s everywhere. I’m gonna have to help you clean it up.”

I couldn’t let that pass. I told them if there was a kidney or liver on the floor, I’d like to go see it.

Our nurse was cool, calm and collected. She continued working on Chris and replied that she would be there as soon as could. I tried to come up with other stuff for her to do to keep her from that room. She finally left us, though.

Oh! The IV. Stuck her five times. Finally had to bring in the ultrasound machine because they couldn’t find a vein. With the help of the miracle machine they found a vein. Oh, and as far as she could tell, there were no babies in there.

They also did one test I didn’t expect. They did a a CT scan of her head. Good news! There was stuff in there.

After all the poking and imaging and such, they went with dehydrated or vaso-vagal. Recommend adjusting blood pressure meds. They said we could leave when the IV bag ran out. Chris immediately set about plotting to squeeze it to make it go faster. Turns out she didn’t have to. Our nurse put it on a pump and turned on the juice! Back home by about 4:00. Not the most satisfying of days, but glad we did it just to make sure.

Now we wait to get an appointment with her PCP for a follow up. There were several unanswered questions that have arisen after we saw the doctor’s notes and the radiologist’s report.

Oh, and Cathy and Lauren from home group brought over some food for dinner. Thanks, you two. Really hit the spot.

‭‭1 Corinthians‬ ‭13‬:‭4‬ says, Love is patient, love is kind. Love does not envy, is not boastful, is not conceited,

Father, thank you for the guys from Station 4 and for our really great nurses today. Not to mention the support and encouragement from our kids. Bless ‘em. Amen.
